New Pulp eBook Best Seller List (Based on Amazon Kindle Store Sales Ranks)

Reposted from http://barryreese.net/
We’re looking at some Kindle Fire sales ranks this time around. There may be a bunch of New Pulp outfits that are only doing e-book releases that I may not know about — if so, I apologize for not listing you here. I used my print list as the jumping-off point. Let’s go over the basic ground rules that I used in compiling this list (which, again, are based off the ones I do for the print materials):
1) This list only tracks sales through AMAZON. It does not keep track of sales through Barnes and Noble or anything else!
2) This list only tracks AMAZON KINDLE sales. Exactly how Amazon calculates these things is mostly a trade secret and they vary wildly from day to day. If I checked this tomorrow, the list could be very different. This list reflects sales ranks as of Wednesday June 13, 2012.
3) In order to keep the focus on new releases, eligible works must have been published within three months of the current date. So, since this list is being done in June 2012, I’m only looking at eBooks published since March 2012. Please keep that in mind before complaining that Title X is not listed.
4) I am no longer tracking pre-release orders. Some publishers never actually release their eBooks and when they do, it’s months after they were supposed to be released. Everything listed in the Top Ten is currently for sale.
5) Like the name suggests, we’re tracking “New” pulp — I’m not tracking sales rankings for reprints of classic material. In order for something to qualify for this list, it has to be at least 50% new material that has not been printed in book form before.
6) I am human. I make mistakes. If you are aware of a title that should be listed below (keeping in mind all the rules above), please let me know and I will make sure to remedy the situation.
7) I get most of my information from All Pulp, New Pulp, the Pulp Factory mailing list and a few other sites. If you think I might miss your release, let me know in advance — drop me a line and tell me when it’s being released.
Without further ado, here’s the completely and totally unofficial New Pulp bestseller list as of right now (title, then publisher, then release date, then sales rank):
1) Doc Savage: The Infernal Buddha by Will Murray (Altus Press, May 2012) – 31,928
2) Hawk: Hand of the Machine by Van Plexico (White Rocket Books, May 2012) – 100,487
7) King of the Outback by Jack Tunney (Fight Card Productions, May 2012) – 297,211
8 ) Hard Road by Jack Tunney (Fight Card Productions, April 2012) – 343,289
9) The Sting of the Silver Manticore by P.J. Lozito (Pro Se Press, April 2012) - 367,401
10) New Adventures of Thunder Jim Wade (Pro Se Press, March 2012) -376,917
Just missing the list: Counter Punch by Jack Tunney (Fight Card Productions, March 2012) – 473,725, Dragon Kings of the Orient by Percival Constantine (Pulp Work Press, May 2012) – 527,392,  and Pro Se Presents # 8 by Various (Pro Se Press, March 2012) – 536,134.
It should be noted that several recent Pro Se releases have not yet made it to the Kindle store (Lee Houston’s newest or Pro Se Presents # 10) so those will probably start showing up on the next list. As a result of that, however, we see no new releases on the chart this week, though several books slide up or down the list. Van Plexico’s Hawk makes the biggest jump, springing up to # 2. Overall, we have six publishers represented on the list. In case you’re wondering where Moonstone and Airship 27 are, neither publisher is in the Kindle store (though some of Moonstone’s back catalog is) for their new releases.
Take it all with a grain of salt, folks.

WRITERS NAMED FOR PULP OBSCURA ANTHOLOGIES OF LESTER DENT CREATIONS!

Twelve writers have been selected to bring two classic characters created by an iconic Pulp Author to life once more in two new anthologies from PULP OBSCURA!

Pro Se Productions, a premier New Pulp Publisher, announced in February plans to publish, with the permission of the Lester Dent estate, new tales featuring Dent creations Foster Fade (also known as the Crime Spectacularist) and Lynn Lash as a part of its PULP OBSCURA imprint.  PULP OBSCURA is a line that Pro Se, in conjunction with Altus Press, a leading Publisher of Pulp Reprints as well as the Publisher of The Wild Adventures of Doc Savage written by Will Murray, produces that features new stories based on rather largely unknown and forgotten heroes and villains from Pulp’s Golden Era.  Although many of these characters, such as Thunder Jim Wade, the adventure hero featured in the most recent PULP OBSCURA volume from Pro Se, are currently in the Public Domain, Pro Se PULP OBSCURA to include licensed characters, the first two of which were creations of the literary legend that many consider the best Pulp Author ever.

“It's truly amazing that Pro Se is a part of this,” Tommy Hancock, Partner in and Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, "and the credit for that goes to Matt Moring from Altus, Will Murray, and especially the Heirs of Norma Dent.  Pro Se is extremely proud to announce that the writers for both a Lynn Lash collection and a Foster Fade collection have been selected.

"I was both amazed," said Hancock, "but also not really surprised at the interest these two characters garnered when we asked for proposals.  The call we put out for these books garnered more interest and proposals than the entire PULP OBSCURA line we recruited for last year did (That project is made up of 34 different writers).  It was difficult and a challenge picking the best twelve, six for each book, but we feel like we have the stories and writers that will definitely both pay homage to the Pulp genius of Lester Dent and reintroduce these great characters to a modern audience.”

According to Hancock, the writers for THE NEW ADVENTURES OF LYNN LASH are-
CHUCK MILLER
RP STEEVES
TEEL JAMES GLENN
ANDREW SALMON
JIM BEARD
TIM LASIUTA

The Writers bringing the Crime Spectacularist into the 21st Century in THE NEW ADVENTURES OF FOSTER FADE include-
DERRICK FERGUSON
BARRY REESE
H. DAVID BLALOCK
DAVID WHITE
AUBREY STEPHENS
ADAM GARCIA

Both books are slated for a late summer/early fall release and will be released in conjunction with a volume collecting the complete original stories of both characters from Altus Press.

“This,” Hancock stated, “is the reason that PULP OBSCURA exists.  To not only shine light on characters that have been completely forgotten and now live in the Public Domain, but also to serve as a way for Pulp characters created by well known authors to come out of the shadows of more successful creations, such as Doc Savage, and to stand on their own, to chart new ground in fiction in the 21st Century.   These two characters were crafted by Lester Dent himself and are being used with the permission of the heirs of Norma Dent.  For this to be the first foray into licensed properties for the PULP OBSCURA imprint is truly an honor.  And don’t think this is all you’ll hear about it before the books come out! There'll be more about these two awesome collections soon!”

Memorial Weekend New Pulp Best Seller List (Based on Amazon Sales Ranks 5/27/12)

Reposted from http://barryreese.net

It’s that time again! Before I unveil the Top Ten, let’s go over a few of the ground rules, shall we? These rules have been fairly stable for some time now but I have recently added rule # 5, so please take note.
1) This list only tracks sales through AMAZON. It does not keep track of sales through Barnes and Noble, face-to-face or anything else!
2) This list only tracks PRINT sales. We do not currently track e-books. Exactly how Amazon calculates these things is mostly a trade secret and they vary wildly from day to day. If I checked this tomorrow, the list could be very different. This list reflects sales ranks as of Sunday morning May 27, 2012.
3) In order to keep the focus on new releases, eligible works must have been published within three months of the current date. So, since this list is being done in May 2012, I’m only looking at books published since February 2012. Please keep that in mind before complaining that Title X is not listed.
4) I am no longer tracking pre-release orders. Some publishers never actually release their books and when they do, it’s months after they were supposed to be released.
Because of the holiday weekend, I ran the stats a day early and am posting them in their customary Monday slot. Because of my wedding anniversary, I’ll probably do the same next week. All this means is that if you double-check my numbers on Monday morning, you might see small differences here and there — these numbers are current as of Sunday morning, though you’re seeing them on Monday.
Without further ado, here’s the completely and totally unofficial New Pulp bestseller list as of right now (title, then publisher, then release date, then sales rank):
1) Tales of The Rook by Various (Pro Se Press, May 2012) – 28,707
2) The Lone Ranger: Vendetta by Howard Hopkins (Moonstone Books, May 2012) – 33,463
3) Doc Savage: The Infernal Buddha by Will Murray (Altus Press, May 2012) – 38,703
4) Sgt. Janus, Spirit-Breaker by Jim Beard (Airship 27, May 2012) – 40,719
5) Sherlock Holmes: The Crossovers Casebook by Various (Moonstone Books, March 2012) – 52,231
6) The Lone Ranger Chronicles by Various (Moonstone Books, May 2012) – 100,282
7) The Sting of the Silver Manticore by P.J. Lozito (Pro Se Press, April 2012) - 174,218
8 ) The Destiny of Fu Manchu by William Patrick Maynard (Black Coat Press, March 2012) - 287,895
9) New Adventures of Thunder Jim Wade (Pro Se Press, March 2012) – 505,330
10) Sherlock Holmes: The Baron’s Revenge by Gary Lovisi (Airship 27, February 2012) - 510,611
Just missing the list were: Pro Se Presents # 10 (Pro Se Press, May 2012) – 542,961, Call of Shadows by David Smith (Airship 27, March 2012) – 863,429 and Dr. Watson’s American Adventure by Erwin K. Roberts (Airship 27, April 2012) – 901,802.
A very busy week in the Top Ten! We have a couple of mainstays drop out of the Top Ten (like the Dr. Watson book) and several new books make their debut — including the # 1 title on the list this time. Howard Hopkins’ posthumous release comes in at # 2 and the new Doc Savage book slips to # 3. Airships 27′s newest title debuts at # 4. It should be noted that the Fu Manchu book is the paperback version, which is currently outselling the hardcover that Amazon’s been offering for awhile. We see continued strong sales on the Thunder Jim Wade book and on anything related to Sherlock Holmes.
From a publisher standpoint, Moonstone and Pro Se had three books each in the Top Ten, with Airship 27 capturing two slots. We have five publishers total represented here.
Take it all with a grain of salt, folks.
